Hello,

My name is Mieke Maria and I was born in Belgium at the end of the seventies.

After some years of living and working in the French Alps, I went back to Belgium to enrol in Philosophy and Theatre Science at the University of Antwerp, 2015. A few years after receiving my Masters’ degree I graduated in Germany at TIP: Schule fur Tanz, Improvisation und Performance (Freiburg, 2017). The same year I also completed an extensive Massage practicum at the Institute for Ayurveda.

Supported by Kulturamt Freiburg, I created and directed performances in cooperation with Südufer Freiburg and ZKM Karlsruhe. I worked nationally and internationally with Visual Artist Agnes Schneidewind (AT) Choreographer Andrea Lagos (CL) and Director & Writer Hazim Kamaledin (IQ). In 2018 and together with Agnes Schneidewind ‘Aliens Connected’ was born, a horizontal and trans-disciplinary space, crossing boundaries between poetry, drawing and performing arts. In 2019, Agnes and I were Artists in Residence at Arteventura (ES) where we published Dead Day Dog, a SF documentation of a cosmic cleaning performance.

In 2020 I felt the urge to change gear… I landed in Portugal where -ever since- I’m dedicated to the continuous Study and Practice of Holistic Massage Techniques, Somatic Coaching Skills and Creative Movement Explorations. I work at my home studio in Barão de São João as well as on location with partners such as Aorca, La Casa del Corpo, Arrabida Dance Labs and AWS watersport & Surfcamp Lagos.  More about my latest services and events is to be found on https://www.mindfulbodywork.net
